Diamonds and Dancing, Dua Lipa Releases New Music Video and Single For Anticipated Barbie Movie
Grammy-winner Dua Lipa recently dropped the hottest song of the summer for the highly anticipated Barbie movie, which is set to release in July 2023. The single ‘Dance the Night’ sets the perfect tone for the upcoming movie with its high-energy melody and catchy chorus. The single easily fits into Lipa’s discography following the Grammy-winning album Future Nostalgia with its disco-pop influences. This song could have only been sung by the international pop star.
From the jump, the single promises to get anyone swaying with its addictive funky bass and pop rhythm. Lipa’s vocals are sultry and light vocals as she sings, “Baby, you can find me under the lights/Diamonds under my eyes/Turn the rhythm up, don’t you wanna just/Come along for the ride?”
The single fits alongside Lipa’s discography full of dancefloor bangers while keeping an original sound that captures anyone who listens. The lyrics depict someone who leaves all their problems behind before stepping onto the dancefloor, “Watch me dance, dance the night away/My heart could be burnin’, but you won’t see it on my face/Watch me dancе, dance the night away (Uh-huh)/I’ll still keep the party runnin’, not one hair out of place.”
Lipa dropped an accompanying music video where she does exactly what she sings about, dances the night away. Under a glittering disco ball and amongst similarly dressed dancers, Lipa shines in a glamourous pink halter top and short blue skirt. As the music video opens, we see Lipa getting on set for the music video in a sort of fourth wall break before a caption comes over the video deeming Dua Lipa a ‘Barbie.’
The music video includes intercutting clips from the Barbie movie, including the titular character played by Margot Robbie alongside other castmates Simu Liu and Beanie Feldstein. The music video also features Barbie’s iconic pink convertible, which Lipa pretends to drive as she sings. Viewers watch as Lipa rocks out in her pink metallic thigh highs on top of a multi-tier platform. Just by watching Lipa, you can tell she’s enjoying her new position as ‘Music Video Barbie.’
A surprise cameo from the upcoming film’s director Greta Gerwig serves as the perfect final touch to the video before its end. In the official Barbie movie, Lipa is set to play Mermaid Barbie.
Stream ‘Dance The Night‘ available on streaming platforms. Barbie is set to premiere in theatres on July 21, 2023.
