VVARD Addresses Broken Relationships in “secret”

VVARD (also known as Verena Ward) is a Dutch/Indonesian singer, songwriter, and producer. Growing up in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, she started writing and producing music about her life and anxieties in her bedroom studio. She’s a proud one-woman-show that ensures a powerful message behind her uniquely crafted dreamy indie-pop scope.

Sharing musical influences of the xx, girl in red, King Princess, and Vampire Weekend, VVARD’s music hones in on concepts of love and heartbreak, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community, all while sharing her own inner battles. Mental health and processing through suicidal thoughts are just one part of her journey she shares in her own unique voice. This led to the ‘I’m so tired EP’ that Ward worked on with producer Sascha Meijer, a project made in the middle of the pandemic and isolation, where mental health struggles hit their peak.

The latest release of VVARD shares an ethereal look into a broken relationship, addressing the struggles one of her friends went through as she took on a third person view. While remaining an energetic pop song in sound, it conquers the darkness in its contrast and addresses the struggles in keeping secrets as it leads through a process of self-destruction and anguish.
