On March 31, UK singer and songwriter Geiste released her new EP, Ashes, via Emika Records. This marks her third EP to date, and blends all of what makes this singer stand out. Boasting beautiful, poetic lyricism, gorgeously rendered soundscapes, and a precise ear for haunting musicality, Geiste can easily stand alongside pop giants such as Kate Bush, Florence and the Machine, and Lorde.

Her new single, “Golden,” is a unique addition to Ashes. Its slowcore elements, evoking and dreamy and sensual instrumentals, pairs beautifully with Geiste’s eerie and otherworldly vocals. The thrumming percussive elements remind one of faerie drums in the woods, while more modern elements such as the synth stylings ground the listener back into modernity, which combine to form a fascinating listen.
Ashes was the third EP of Geiste’s written during the pandemic. Co-producer Karri Mikkonen of Sugar House Publishing helped create the electronic world in which she could tell her story.
Geiste comments on the social climate during the pandemic, which had inspired the overall tone of the album, stating, “I was so upset and enraged about everything going on in the world at the time and still today, that I had to find a way to express it healthily. The various uprising of the population, the climate and the way we the population listens and don’t act, minorities who struggle to be heard… I had to talk about that in my own way because everything else seemed meaningless.”
Born in the south of France, near the town of St Tropez, Geiste began writing stories and her own music at a young age. Quickly evolving from an acoustic act to a more electronic live set, Geiste quickly attracted interest from the UK music industry. In 2021 Geiste was a selected artist in the Innovation Network of European Showcases (INES#Talent) program and received the Do It Differently fund from Help Musicians UK.
