On October 13 Troye Sivan released the official music video for his first single of 2021 — “Angel Baby.” The music video’s romantic vibe is ramped up with a multitude of angel babies and provocative clips. “Angel Baby” has already garnered more than 31 million streams across the globe since its release in September by Capitol Records.
“Angel Baby” is a melodic love song with a soft chorus. The music video portrays all sorts of romantic situations from the gender binary and beyond. It was directed by his “Heaven” director Luke Gliford in New York City. Throughout the music video, Sivan celebrated queer love by singing “I just wanna live in this moment forever/ ‘Cause I’m afraid that living couldn’t get any better.” Written by Tryoe Sivan, Jason Evigan, Michael Pollack, Sarah Hudson and JHart — “Angel Baby” is a mega pop power ballad. Sivan flawlessly weaves romance, ardour and passion in 90s cinematic synth glory.
Rolling Stone praised it by calling it a “romantic ode.” NME addressed it as “a soaring, slow-burning ballad that sees Sivan crooning above a lush bed of cinematic synths.” The Honey POP acknowledged, “It’s unapologetically romantic, with a hint of top-tier nostalgic, retro cinematic 90s synth glory…’Angel Baby’ is already giving us Blue Neighbourhood 2.0 vibes.”
Troye has over 10 billion global streams, which also includes one billion video streams. Bloom (Capitol Records), his sophomore album, was named as one of the best albums of 2018 by the critics at Rolling Stone, The Guardian, USA Today, Billboard, OUT, NPR Music and numerous other publications, with TIME commenting, “Troye Sivan is the perfect pop star.” His multiple awards include a Billboard Music Awards trophy, three MTV Europe Music Awards and two GLAAD Media wins.
