On September 17 2021, London’s R&B/soul sensation Kara Marni released her third EP State of Mine. She continues to ascent the top hits of the week after unveiling this wonderful work of art. The EP is a stunning collection of 7 tracks that showcases Kara’s talent as a songwriter with her thought-provoking and innovative lyrics which she showcases by lacing her honest storytelling with lovely and infectious tunes. The elements of R&B in tracks like “2nd Nature” and soul in songs like the Amerie-sampled “Trippin” truly reflect Kara’s versatility.
Kara Marni used her time during the lockdown to try something she had never really had the time to do before: reflect on the past few whirlwind years of her life. ‘State of Mine’ — her brainchild is a culmination of months reflection of her own life, the highs and lows she went through; from struggling with mental health to a better understanding of what she needs out of a lover.

State of Mine is a careful, intricate body of work that shows the listener how far Kara has come as an artist, while also underlining her as an astounding voice in her genre. The EP’ title reflects a year in Kara’s life which she describes as having “been in plenty of different emotional states”. The EP beautifully encapsulates themes of love, loneliness, self-reflection, and self-empowerment. The EP is a reflection of all the feelings that Kara has gone through over the past year. Her heavenly melodies are a juncture of pop and soul.
The EP’s collaborators consist of the multi-platinum US rapper RUSS on “Young Heart” and the R&B singer Toni Romiti on the focus track “Over You.” Her credits also include her long-term collaborators and producers THE INVISIBLE MEN, JEFF + KEITH and SOS.
Throughout her short career to this point, the critically-acclaimed rising R&B/soul powerhouse Kara Marni has accumulated over 50 million career streams and is also featured in Spotify’s Chill Hits, the major pop and R&B playlists, This Is How We Do as well as A-List: R&B on Apple Music. Her other two EPs, No Logic and Love Just Ain’t Enough, has received radio support from BBC Radio 1Xtra, where “Lose My Love” a single of hers spent 5 weeks on the A-list. Kara’s debut performance at the Live Lounge went global by reaching over 20 million Instagram users within just one weekend. She also capped off an extremely busy international festival season in 2019 by not only appearing as the star performer at Glastonbury’s Pussy Parlure stage but also sold-out her first-ever UK and European headline tour. Both Vogue and Complex highlighted Kara in the “Ones To Watch” features. At the 2020 Urban Music Awards she won the “Best Female Act” she also holds the title for the most engaged performance in the Vevo DSCVR series.
