Surf Mesa’s Is Bringing Good Energy with ‘Manzanita’
Surf Mesa is the work of Washington-born artist Powell Aguirre, and he is here to provide good vibes for the summer. Although the 21-year-old has been creating music since he was in third grade, posting his work on SoundCloud, it was in 2019 that he released his first EP, bedroom.
Aguirre likes to describe his music as “mellifluous.” That is the perfect descriptor for his new single, “Manzanita.”
While “Manzanita” is undoubtedly a dance track, it holds an airy, ethereal quality to it. This is only bolstered by Aguirre’s dreamy vocals. It’s a more stripped-back, calm version of the techno-dance tracks that dominate radios every summer. “Manzanita” is still a lively song, especially with the horns anchoring the light beats and riffs.
Prior to “Manzanita,” Aguirre released the single “City of Love” with Selah Sol. The accompanying visualizer, which can be watched below, is all about capturing the youthful freedom and hope of the song.
Aguirre is all about spreading good energy and has been from the start. He first blew up with the viral hit “ily (i love you baby).” The 2x platinum song has led to Aguirre amassing over 12 billion streams. It also opened the doors for star-studded collaborations. He worked with Madison Beer on “Carried Away (Love to Love)” and created a remix of Marshmello and Halsey’s “Be Kind.”
What to expect next from Aguirre is unknown, but whatever it is will bring good vibes and fun music.
Aguirre is currently bringing his good energy across the United States on his “Come True” tour. The tour will continue through the end of September. Check out the dates below:
