SURF CURSE TEASE NEW LP WITH INDIE SINGLE “SELF PORTRAIT”
The Los Angeles-based indie rock sensation Surf Curse is back with a brand-new single “Self Portrait” to celebrate a new milestone as a band and their fourth LP MAGIC HOUR. The band founded in Reno, NV by lead singer and drums Nick Rattigan and guitarist Jacob Rubeck, rose to fame in 2020 with a breakthrough TikTok hit “Freaks”. Since then, Surf Curse has made a name for themselves in the music world with their crazy creative sound uniquely mixed from indie, punk, pop, and psych rock genres. Something they have perfected with their new album MAGIC HOUR, thanks to the addition of two new band members Noah Kohll (guitars) and Henry Dillon (bass). Make sure to pre-save MAGIC HOUR here and be one of the first to get your hands on it when it debuts on October 7.
“MAGIC HOUR is our excitement about rock music and being in a band. This album is the excitement of starting something that we all can feel good about with each other, but also progressing as creative people and throwing in that magic. We’re feeling that magic, what’s brewing in the air and what’s existing in what we’re doing together.”
Jacob Rubeck
However, we don’t have to wait until October to enjoy a snippet of MAGIC HOUR as the Atlantic Records debut album contains some previously released singles such as “Lost Honor,” the power pop anthem, “Sugar,” and of course the most recent banger “Self Portrait”.
The adventurous music video directed by Nathan Castiel and Nick Rattigan gives off strong “The Revenant” vibes with its snowstorm survival theme. The heavy indie rock tunes carry you through the struggling story of a woman finding her way in an icy wilderness while also finding herself. This song slightly differs from their usual sound combo to emphasize the indie style with the smooth guitar riffs and drum rhythms that the new band members contribute. We are excited to see more of this new side of Surf Curse and can’t wait to see what other gems MAGIC HOUR holds!
Surf Curse will celebrate MAGIC HOUR with an epic world headline tour, getting underway with a highly anticipated performance at the upcoming Primavera Sound 2022 Los Angeles, set for Saturday, September 17 at Los Angeles State Historic Park. The band will then cross the Atlantic for a major EU/UK tour, followed by a North American headline kicking off with a pair of special Halloween shows at Las Vegas, NV’s AREA15 (October 30) and San Diego, CA’s SOMA (October 31) and then traveling through a hometown tour finale at Hollywood, CA’s famed Hollywood Palladium on December 17. Special guests throughout the North American tour include Toner, Grumpy, and others to be announced. For complete details and ticket information, check out www.surfcurse.com/tour.
