Charlie Puth Drops Latest Single, “Smells Like Me” From Upcoming Album CHARLIE
In the world of music, 2022 has been Charlie Puth’s year, as he’s released hit singles “Light Switch,” “Left and Right” (featuring Jung Kook of BTS), and “That’s Hilarious.” In anticipation of his third upcoming studio album, CHARLIE (Out October 7th), singer, songwriter, and producer Charlie Puth dropped one of the album’s singles, “Smells Like Me.”
“Smells Like Me” is a breakup song that is upbeat and catchy, in contrast to the biting lyrics. The single is Puth essentially asking his ex whether she still thinks of him, even as she is with a new guy. Puth throws out possible scenarios where his ex could be comparing her new partner with Puth, such as in the chorus when he asks, “And when you touch him, does it really feel the same?/ Or are you lyin’ there, thinkin’ about the way/ That it used to be?” Another interesting comparison he makes is when he states, “Candles, they’re the same as mine/ But it’s not because of me, ’cause of me, right?” Despite the cutting lyrics of the song, “Smells Like Me” has a fun, bright melody that makes the song upbeat even with its slower tempo. The song opens up with an interesting synth and drum beat reminiscent of an 80s sound.
