Sueco’s “Next Ex” Music Video Is Inspired By A Clockwork Orange
Sueco is an artist who loves to experiment with different music genres, which can be seen in his switching between a more pop punk style in tracks like “Paralyzed” and “Today,” to an emo ballad such as “Salt.” Now Sueco’s newest single, “Next Ex,” showcases his skills in experimenting with mixing alternative rock and rap with a heavy bass sound. The song has a playful feel to it, from the lyrics that put a more NSFW twist on the “Sitting in a Tree” nursery rhyme and the harmonies incorporated throughout the song.
The music video further emphasizes the song’s playfulness, with a mix of scenes featuring Sueco in a sparkly green tuxedo hosting a kid’s show with puppets (similar to Sesame Street) along with him and his band rocking out. Nas Bogado directed the music video inspired by A Clockwork Orange, which is most obvious in the single’s cover art but can also be seen in the set design. The kitchen featured in the music video looks as though it was designed in the 70s, and the bright pops of color throughout the video are reminiscent of some of the sets in A Clockwork Orange.
Watch the music video for “Next Ex” below:
The video for “Next Ex” begins with a guy sitting in his kitchen eating breakfast, who turns on the TV to see Sueco hosting his kid’s puppet show. He’s enjoying himself, turning up the TV’s volume and laughing along as Sueco sings. Then, another guy comes into the kitchen, takes the controller, and switches the channel to Sueco performing with his band. As the two guys fight over the controller, the scenes switch between Sueco on the puppet show, Sueco playing with his band, and a random commercial for Sueco’s law firm. Overall, the bright colors, and general playfulness of the music video perfectly encompass the vibe of “Next Ex.”
The casual, more fun style of “Next Ex” drives home the message of wanting to enjoy life without being held down by a serious relationship. This is especially apparent in the pre-chorus lyrics, “So tell me, tell me, tell me, are you cool with temporary?/ I’m not trying to get married, I’m just trying to get carried away/ Need a distraction, not emotional attachment.” It’s a song that’s catchy, upbeat, and sure to get anyone to rock out.
Sueco is also currently on tour, with about half of his shows being sold out! For more information on tour dates and to get tickets while they last, visit Sueco’s Official Website. “…A journey from dark to light. Going from a place of emptiness to everything being alright. It’s the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. It really was fun while it lasted.”
