On September 29, Los Angeles-based visual artist and songwriter RIKI released the gorgeous music video for “Marigold.” This song is the lead single for RIKI’s upcoming new album Gold, which will be released November 26 via Dais Records. The high-style music video is a perfect encapsulation of the new romantic icon, featuring gauzy, dream-like shots accompanied by the familiar synth-pop beats and vocals RIKI is known for.

“Marigold” gives us but a sampling of Gold’s vision. Quoted to be “inspired by notions of symbolic power, letting go, and transmutable realms of the heart,” Gold is a labor of love from the west coast artist. RIKI emphasizes that Gold focuses on the “quieter” moments of life, a medium that allows her to “say the things [she] wanted to say but didn’t have the platform.” The album seems to hint at a strong 80’s influence, as RIKI has stated her main sources of inspiration for this collection to be artists such as Saâda Bonaire, Strawberry Switchblade, Bryan Ferry and Bananarama.

Before her solo debut in 2017, RIKI was a member of the deathrock/anarcho-punk band Crimson Scarlet. She released her debut album in 2020, where she used upbeat dance anthems and a mix of stylish synth beats to explore themes of fortitude, romance, and self-expression in a truly timeless manner. RIKI has also announced a support slot on Choir Boy’s 2022 Spring Tour, which will be kicking off March 15 in Denver. For a full list of locations and dates on which they will be performing, check out RIKI’s website here.

Gold will be released on November 26. In the meantime, you can pre-order the highly-anticipated album here, or you can watch the provocative music video for “Marigold” here.
