“Idel” is a lovely well-produced indie rock dreamscape of bells, drum set, airy guitar grooves and psychedelic sound samples sprinkled throughout. As if written in the stars, the track lasts exactly “5:55” in length. KRAPIVA takes you on a sonic journey in “Idel,” slowing down in the middle for a galactic breath as if you’re floating in space. Intricate rhythms overlap between all the different instruments for an intelligently stimulating listening experience. The energy builds up for a minute, then airs back out with a reprieve resembling the middle section. The song eases to close with a chill groove that fades out into the abyss.
This awesome track is a strong debut by electronic duo “KRAPIVA,” composed of two outstanding Kazan musicians Kmitry Krapivin and Roman Alekseev. They each have managed to work with a variety of genres throughout their respective careers, and it shows in their debut single “Idel.” Their background allowed them to find such a unique sound of gorgeous soundscapes across diverse instrumentations. The name “Idel,” meaning Volga,” is the Tatar name of the river where the city of Kazan is located, so this song is definitely a meaningful release to the duo. They resurrected melodies from over 100 years ago into the modern indietronica track you hear today.
