DC-based trip-hop/dubstep producer Hübac is back with another single. This single follows a prior release, “Moonshot,” which focused on bass design and a unique drum pattern.

In an homage to influential American rapper 2Pac, Hübac’s second single is named “Hübac Shakur.” It is a trip-hop/dubstep mash-up of “Shawty Wanna Be A Thug” and “How Do You Want It.” The song starts with a sweet guitar intro. A few words from the songs are sprinkled in and Hübac’s signature trippy sound is layered with distorted effects and choppy synths. It all creates a slow and evenly-paced 80-second build-up into the mash-up.

Bouncy basslines bring listeners into the drop. The trippy distortions continue behind increasingly chopped-up lyrics. 2Pac’s vocals are still very prominent, but in true style, Hübac showcases their ability to focus on bass design and to create interesting sound patterns. The track incorporates so many different distortion elements that it really pulls listeners into the soundscape. It’s impossible to not get a little bit of a hop in your step when you listen to this track. And of course, it’s hard not to bop around when you’re listening to the words of one of American rap’s greats.
