Brighton-based singer/songwriter, Flossy Jones, has always envisioned a life more than the melancholic monotony of a big city underdog, drifting from bar-to-bar singing jazz to keep desire alive. Dreaming of sincere love, authentic glamour, and bittersweet happiness, she channeled her fantasies into her music, constructing a dark new reality. Blending cinematic instrumental and electronic beats with destabilizing vocals, lead by a sultry vocal line reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, Sky Ferreira, and London Grammar, her music has taken the feeling of the classic old into an exciting new age. This dreamy soundscape reflects modern-day femme fatale, Flossy Jones.
“Goodbye Kiss” is a dreamy ode to an old flame from times gone by, one that was gone before Flossy had the chance to say goodbye. Not only is she trying to move on from a person, but she’s also trying to move on from what she considers her best days, all the late night drives and the joys of being young. And although they had nothing, they had their happiness and that was enough.
Flossy pours these reminiscent memories over a soft piano melody. She exhibits her signature sultry vocal style with lyrics that pull focus to the days she misses – drinking cheap wine to pass the time and being enveloped in love. Even though she’s moving forward with her life and doing all of the things her old flame would have wanted her to do, she still misses these days and thinks of them often, wanting nothing but to go on a long drive. The slow melody, airy vocalizations, and smoky tone paint a dreamscape that pulls the listener into the story as she yearns for a parting gift – a goodbye kiss.
