A New Era of FLØRE: Pop-Rock Single, “Don’t U Dare,” Unveils Artist’s Next Chapter

FLØRE writes songs “to give this weird existence a meaning”. Feeling like an alien for most of her life, she spent her childhood playing guitar, singing and dreaming of the universe. She’s inspired by the darkness of growing up, the beautifully broken and the feeling of what it must be like when life begins. Or what it must be like when it ends. Or what it is at all. She calls herself a moon-lover, who expresses the loneliness in her songs, revealing her touching voice telling stories about her own fragileness, devotion for unusual human beings and a broken love.

Since her beginnings, FLØRE has showcased a signature, lighthearted indie-pop flair of instrumentals with a darkened edge in her lyrics. With her debut EP, SUPERBLOOM, we saw a coming-of-age tendency that inspired a sense of nostalgia as her journey into self-discovery was showcased to the world. We chatted with her over Zoom as she told us that she was happy the album was written but that she was craving for more… the kind of music that not only offers catharsis but can fight back and battle on its own. Following that, her next EP, ROMANIAC, did just that; all while staying true to the sound she had developed carefully over her musical journey.

Next, we are privileged to see a new side of FLØRE; one with a far darker edge of cynicism in its finest glories. Unveiling a new chapter in her music, the Germany-based musician showcases a different sound than her past works, all with similar, darkly beautiful lyrics sewn in. The single, released on Friday, February 11th- just in time for Valentine’s Day- “Don’t U Dare” symbolizes and encapsulates all of the feelings of not just the aches and pains, but the biting and the agonies of being hurt by someone. And while the agony sits rotting from within in the entire being, in the words capture the sense of pride that remains, in not letting the person who caused all the pain and heartache to see what they’ve wrought upon that person. We, as the listeners of the track, see what truly lies within the mind. Laced in pop punk tones, every thought becomes ours in this darkly cathartic new tune.
