On February 3, LA-based music producer and DJ Tsu Nami released her new single of 2022 via bitbird, titled “Angel,” featuring American singer and songwriter Dani King. The release of “Angel” also serves as the first taste of Tsu Nami’s newest EP Ethereal which will be released later this month on February 24.

“Angel” features an unconventional twist from the rising electronic artist so far. Tsu Nami’s usual bubblegum pop style has been cloaked in a steely new coat. Dani King’s powerful vocals form a collaborative effort with the song’s heavy instrumentals of bold drums and sequential chords. According to Tsu Nami, this project was driven by experimentation and it proved more than successful. “Angel was an experiment for me,” the artist comments, “a way to push myself to create something heavier but still very much Tsu Nami. I’m so happy with how it turned out!”
As for Dani King’s side of the creative process, she wrote the lyrics to “Angel” surrounding the idea of having a bit of a wild personality but knowing someone loves exactly that. “I wrote the lyrics for this one and the concept of this song as very flippant and coy,” she explains. “[Tsu Nami] then turned it into this super cool different version that I never could have envisioned. I love her style and the personal twist she put into this song.”
Both artists are rising stars to keep an eye on, with Tsu Nami dropping her new EP on the 24th, preparing for her new tour supporting Jai Wolf and San Holo at Red Rocks and festival appearances at Beyond Wonderland and Buku, while Dani King has signed to Cultiv8 Artists in LA, getting ready to perform at numerous festivals and work with an array of producers.
