Eden Rain Talks Self-Sacrifice In New Indie Pop Hit “Crashmat”

“Crashmat” is a comforting anthem for people pleasers. Eden Rain’s intoxicatingly hazy indie pop single, released September 6, explores what happens when you put everyone before yourself.

I think it really hits on that feeling of being stretched too thin, right? It’s like you’re always on call, trying to be everything for everyone, and somewhere along the way, you forget to take care of yourself. It’s about how you can love someone and want to help but also not really knowing how to.

~ Eden Rain

The Leeds singer-songwriter paints a vivid picture of being there for others at the expense of herself — “everything feels like dying,” she sings. It’s the kind of support that becomes an escape from facing your own needs – “What’s in your head because I’m scared of mine” — where seeking validation supersedes self-care — “I’ve always needed praise more than water.”

In a swirling and smooth sound, this atmospheric track brings a steady yet unhurried rhythm, a solid rhythm setting the scene to let those overwhelming feelings out. On “Crashmat,” strong vocals shine in dynamic moments and ethereal high notes alike, a testament to Eden Rain’s vocal talent, as well as her gift for crafting heart-achingly vulnerable lyrics.

I’m everybody’s everything

Good time, good girl, get on with it

I’ll be your car, your crashmat

Carry you in my backpack

~ “Crashmat”

The song’s fresh music video adds a dreamy layer, where Eden Rain sits perched on a green sofa, seemingly going through the motions of life, ranging from scrolling on her phone alone to sitting in contemplative sadness to having pillow fights with friends. A projector casts aesthetic scenes of lively memories, a dynamic contrast to the stationary couch.

With hits like “Great Nothing” and “Figure It Out,” Eden Rain’s momentum is building. Now, fans can look forward to a new EP coming out this November. If “Crashmat” is any indication, Eden Rain’s EP will be refreshingly remarkable.

This rising star is sure to be your next obsession. Catch her live in London at MOTH Club November 12 (tickets available here). Explore all things Eden Rain via Instagram, TikTok, and X
