Catie Turner Shares “Hyperfixations” Music Video For Upbeat Yet Emotional Single

Catie Turner brings us back to the world of high school theater in her newly released music video for the single “Hyperfixations.”

A group of students audition for their school’s production of “Cinderella” in the music video, and the pop song is punctuated with bursts of commentary and humorous moments from the characters. “Hyperfixations” beautifully combines vulnerable, emotional lyrics with a fun, boppy melody.

‘Hyperfixations,’ for me, is a normal therapy session. Semi-concerning lyrics, but with a beat that says, ‘Hey, she’s kind of doing something!’ It’s about living inside my head to the point it affects my ability to love and to perceive love; it affects my ability to perceive life. I really hope you enjoy it, whether as a down-to-enjoy-some-chaos type of person or a fellow neurodivergent over-thinker.

The video’s schoolroom setting, paired with themes of overthinking and anxieties, feels familiar to those who don’t have everything figured out yet. Though Turner is 23 years old, the uncertainty that comes with being a high schooler doesn’t necessarily go away. Constantly analyzing and trying to understand yourself and your own life is exhausting.

Am I doing this bad

Am I doing it right

Did I peak at 17, now I’m on the decline

Pull hair, grind teeth, hate how I write

There I go again with my hyperfixations

From each audition to the dance breakouts to the long-awaited reveals of the cast list, Turner’s performance has us hooked in this music video. Turner perfectly melds the serious with the silly in “Hyperfixations.”

She knows how to write some of the most relatable songs, whether that’s pairing comedy and tragedy in introspective tunes like “Hyperfixations” or soul-stirring songs like 2021’s “God Must Hate Me.” There’s a reason PEOPLE named her among the “25 Emerging Musical Artists You Should Add to Your Playlist.”

The singer-songwriter’s most recent single kicks off Part 1 of her new project, Comedy & Tragedy. The project will feature two parts — with both songs and visuals — to look forward to throughout the rest of the year. Turner is continuing to flex her mastery for both lyricism and sound — skills that have fans on the edge of their seats anticipating Comedy & Tragedy.
