Girls Like Hayley Kiyoko’s New Book, “Girls Like Girls”

Groundbreaking star Hayley Kiyoko is releasing her debut young adult novel, “Girls Like Girls,” next month. After her hit song and video of the same name, the novel follows young Coley, who must move to rural Oregon after a family loss. She meets Sonya, and the two must navigate their budding feelings for one another. Reflecting on their willingness to open their hearts to self acceptance, the coming-of-age romance embraces one’s truth and encourages its audience to fight for the love they deserve. The audiobook will be published alongside the hardcover on May 30th and will be 9 hours long.

Kiyoko has brought on a studded cast to narrate the characters of the “Girls Like Girls” official audiobook. Starring alongside Kiyoko, voice actor Natalie Naudus is Sonya. Brandon Flynn voices Trenton, Malia Pyles voices SJ, and Katie Gavin from indie pop band MUNA voices Brooke. The cast is sure to deliver. Naudus has narrated over 400 audiobooks, including pop-culture sensation I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston. She received a 2022 Multi-Voiced Performance Audie Award for Heresy by Melissa Lenhardt. Brandon Flynn is known for his role as Justin Foley in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, and Malia Pyles starred in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin. Katie Gavin is the lead singer and songwriter of Los Angeles-based, queer indie pop band MUNA. Kiyoko spoke highly of having these talents on the novel’s official audiobook recording.

“They have all made such a positive impact on the queer community through their art and by living their authentic truth each and every day. I couldn’t have asked for a better cast to help me tell this story.”

Hayley Kiyoko

Kiyoko, herself a queer icon, originally released the song and video “Girls Like Girls” seven years ago, racking in over 150 million views on youtube. The book is coming out as Kiyoko takes on an international tour for her critically acclaimed sophomore album PANORAMA (2022). The LP is co-written by Hayley and produced by Kiyoko, Danja (Beyoncé, Britney Spears) and Pat Morrisey & Kill Dave. It features singles “For The Girls,” “Chance” and “Found My Friends,” bringing in rave reviews from The New York Times and Billboard. Since her first album EXPECTATIONS, Rolling Stone placed Kiyoko “at the forefront of an unapologetically queer pop movement.”
