Automatic Brings the Retro Vibes in their New Music Video “New Beginning”

Feeling nostalgic for some 60’s/70’s retro vibes? Then check out the music video for Automatic’s “New Beginning”.

“New Beginning” is the new single off Automatic’s second album, Excess (out June 24th). It’s available for pre-order on vinyl or deluxe eco-mix vinyl on Stones Throw website. Automatic will tour around the U.S. and Europe from April until September, with musical acts such as Tame Impala and Osees.

There’s no need to wait for their tour or new album drop to listen to their 70’s inspired music though, with “New Beginning” available to stream now.

The music video for “New Beginning”, inspired by the Swedish sci-fi film Aniara, depicts what seems like a fun trip to space that takes a turn for the worse. The entire album is described as 70’s underground meets 80’s corporate culture, or as Automatic states,

“That fleeting moment when what was once cool quickly turned and became mainstream, all for the sake of consumerism.”

“New Beginning”, though, has a more retro 60’s aesthetic, from the clothes to the technology, with a sound reminiscent of the times when Jefferson Airplane and the Mama’s and Papa’s were around. At the start, lead vocalist, Izzy Galudini, is on her way to “New Beginning Inc ”, where she boards a ship to travel through space. After boarding, Lola Dompe and Halle Saxon join the trip, and they seem to enjoy themselves as they travel through space. There’s a dark undertone present throughout the video though, which comes to fruition at the end, when the trio meets their demise. How will it all go down though? Watch the video for “New Beginning” here to find out:
