Perth based electronic trio Crooked Colours are back with a smooth new single “No Sleep” arriving as their first release of 2021. The song combines a lot of familiar genres to the trio like deep house, indie rock, and pop songwriting. Featuring noticeably moody vocals from singer/guitarist Phil Slabber, this track is an impressively smooth deep house banger full of seductive indietronica production. Slabber’s lyrics are a nuanced addition to the dance production on this track and explore topics of relationship troubles that feel uniquely personal. According to Slabber,

“We’ve always tried to meld emotional lyric content with dance production ideas and ‘No Sleep’ is a perfect example of that at the heart of it the song is about someone who treated a relationship with a sort of arrogant nonchalance and didn’t truly appreciate it until it’s too late. It serves as a reminder to hold on to the good things we have and to not take them for granted.”

Crooked Colours prove themselves as a standout part of the large Australian electro pop scene including notable familiar names like Golden Features, Rufus Du Sol, and Set Mo. Since starting back in 2014, the trio of Phil Slabber, Leon Debaughn, and Liam Merrett-Park scored their breakout single back in 2017 with “Flow” and have been charting since then. After scoring remixes from the likes of SNBRN and Blanke, they had the chance to remix Don Toliver’s track “No Idea” last year. With “No Sleep” being the first 2021 release from Crooked Colours, they’re sure to keep the hits coming.
