Charlie Houston Is Waiting On Your “Calls”

Charlie Houston is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter freshly signed to Arts & Crafts. Her mission as an artist is to deliver authentic songs which address things all young people deal with, like holding onto issues, empty Juul pods, missing people, and waiting on calls.

Calls” is Houston’s second single, featuring androgynous vocals, a very minimalistic bass line over a open, groovy drum beat, with tasteful elements of electronic samples sprinkled throughout. The accompanying music video has an old-school home video type vibe, and it’s labelled a “short film.” It definitely captures the impatience of pacing and doing weird, repetitive things when you’re bored waiting on someone’s calls.

If you like this, then make sure to check out my Nü Qü playlist, because her other track “Things” is currently chilling at the top of that. If you’re familiar with the song Gold by Kiiara you know how vocals can be distorted in a fun, indie-pop way, and Houston has taken her own spin on that to implement edgy elements to her music.
