We Came as Romans Release Music Video for Anguish Filled Anthem “Golden”
Michigan metalcore band We Came as Romans released their music video for their single, “Golden”, on September 6th, 2022. The track sees the band agonizingly sing about loss and heartbreak, over a blaring of drums and guitar. “Golden was one of five singles that the band released from their latest album, Darkbloom. Other singles included “Plagued”, “Black Hole” featuring Caleb Shomo, and “Daggers” featuring Zero 9:36.
We Came as Romans entered the music scene with their self-released EP Demonstrations in 2008. Since then, they have gone on to release numerous singles and six studio albums. The band has received critical acclaim for their music, which consists of heartfelt and emotional anthems that provide hope in times of darkness. The band’s latest release Darkbloom, was the first album that they released in five years, following the 2017 project Cold Like War.
The song opens with a battering of drums, which go on to be the driving force for the whole song. The song’s lyrics deal with the trauma and depression of losing a loved one, and Stephens’ voice seems to almost break at points with the pain of his subject matter. “Golden” also shows the opposite side of the pain- as Stephens recounts how despite this person being taken away from them too soon, they will always cherish the time that they spent together and will never forget those golden memories. For anyone who’s lost a loved one, this is surely a song that they will be able to relate to.
The music video shows the band in an unknown indoor venue filled with grass. Stephen seems to be standing on a chopped down tree, while the rest of the band members stand among the grass. The music video utilizes a lot of shaky cam and we see the camera move chaotically around as it tries to capture the band. The lighting is also erratic, as we get multiple flashes of golden light all throughout the video.
