Hailing from the “land of the midnight sun,” Sweden’s very own, We Are The Catalyst sets the tone for the end of the year with leading single, “Angels of Death,” from their newest album, Perserverance, freshly released on all streaming platforms.

The group formed in 2012 with the intent goal of becoming the light in a dark place for those who need it most. In the rock and metal world, especially, the dark undertones of the genre’s standards have been shed a refreshing new light, thanks to them. Described as a multi-faceted version of rock, including alternative metal, emotional or melodic rock, metalcore, and more, their name itself is a hope to become a message of encouragement against all things dark and dampening.

The members– Cat Fey, Kenny Boufadene, Joni Kaartinen and Håkan Strind– spent years touring with their former band, the Modern Metal act One Without, and have channeled their skills and passion into We Are The Catalyst. After doing their first live show in March of 2015, the band embarked on a 10 day tour of China, being specially invited to perform at the prestigious “Sound of the Xity” music expo in Beijing, as well as playing stand-alone shows and Chinas biggest music festival “Strawberry Festival” in Shanghai, where WATC headlined the “Planet Stage”.

In the last couple of years, We Are The Catalyst songs on streaming services have been listened to over 3 million times with no label backing involved. In 2017, the project signed a deal with Perfection Management in California. They are a management/consulting company formed by Phil Quartararo (former CEO of Warner Music Group and EMI as well as Co-founder of Virgin) Grammy winning producer Bob Cutarella, and Chris Carlucci (formerly with Universal).

“Angels of Death” offer a fresh look into the project’s distinctive sound. With soaring guitar riffs, mosh pit-worthy drum beats, and angelically executed female lead vocals, the single is much like an invigorating breath, filling in the gaps where many metal tracks fall short. In the small world of this genre, it’s hard to come by such vocals that captivate the audience in its heavy styling contrasted with a rare gem of unique vocal offerings.
