Tomo Details the End of a Relationship in Emotionally Charged New Single, “Going Under”

The end of a relationship hardly ever comes without hurt feelings. Even the most amicable breakups are tinted with feelings of loss, particularly when you have to say goodbye to someone who was a large part of a pivotal chapter of your life. And for ones that aren’t amicable well…there can be many more emotions associated. Tomo reflects on the end of a recent relationship with his emotional new single, “Going Under,” and for him – he’s lost his faith in love as a result.

Tomo is an indie-folk singer/songwriter based in Bristol, UK. He takes inspiration from a wide range of influences, including Radical Face, Shane Macgowan, Leonard Cohen, and Charles Bukowsky. He released his debut EP, Wayward Son, in 2020 and followed with his debut album, Before Dawn, earlier this year. His music has been played on radio stations across the country, including BBC Somerset and BBC Radio Bristol, and he has received support from artists like Tom Rosenthal or outlets like Atwood Magazine. He strives to produce engaging and atmospheric music, with a heavy focus on lyrical content. Combining his powerful, literary lyricism with emotive production, Tomo brings listeners into his world of nostalgia and sentiment.

“Going Under” features the delicate soundscapes we have come to know and love from Tomo. The effervescent guitar strums and violin symphonies lay the groundwork for the vulnerable exploration of sadness and regret that underlines the message. Soft vocals and even softer vocal harmonies emphasize the emotional nature of the track. Even though Tomo acknowledges the importance of this separation, it is also clear to listeners that he is still hurting from it. It shows that nothing is black and white – you can still have a lot of love for someone, but also know it’s better to move on.
