These Three Brands are Giving Back for Pride Month
The rainbow takes over every June as brands celebrate Pride. This month, the spotlight is on uplifting queer and non-binary folks and empowering them to live out their truth. Similar to years past, bands have been releasing themed campaigns left and right, incorporating rainbow flag branding and promoting acceptance in their messaging. However, no other industry does it quite as good as fashion.
Fashion is perhaps one of the strongest facets of expression, with its ability to convey larger-than-life concepts, abstract ideas, and powerful beliefs. LGBTQIA+ community members have long since been pioneers of style, creating subgenres of fashion and propelling the art form forward. They’re well-versed in making a statement and encapsulating their journeys with compelling imagery and out-of-this-world aesthetics.
This month, companies are stepping up and giving back. Here are three brands that have released their own pride collections this Pride Month in the hopes of helping the movement progress toward positive change.
Eyebuydirect
Eyebuydirect has released a collection of loud and bright eyewear styles for their newest “Forever Pride” campaign. With this line, the brand highlights individuality and the importance of boosting the voices of LGBTQ+ members who are leading with love. The eyeglasses in the collection are aptly named, with frames being titled “Unity,” “Proud,” and “Amplify,” as the brand continues to stand with modern changemakers. For this campaign, the brand also tapped into young members of the community who use their online platforms to inspire people to be comfortable with their identities.
This collection is another milestone in Eyebuydirect’s longtime partnership with The Trevor Project. This is the leading nonprofit organization for crisis intervention and suicide prevention among young LGBTQ+ members. It provides free services and aid to queer youth at risk. As support, Eyebuydirect will be donating all of its sales from the Forever Pride eyewear line (donation minimum at $25,000 and maximum at $50,000) from May 21-June 30 to the Trevor Project.
Bluebella
Bluebella celebrates this year’s pride month with self-expression through lingerie. Bluebella is an intimate brand that has always believed in redefining fashion by pushing boundaries. This year, they launched a lingerie collection in collaboration with queer British singer Girli who has always been a loud and proud advocate for the community. Plenty of her music is centered on the queer experience of growing up, attracting a fanbase that has been craving the type of representation she provides. Through her infectious energy and strong music style, she has carved a safe space within the industry for members of the community. You can see her model Bluebella’s Pride collection, which includes lingerie in bright kaleidoscopic colors to empower wearers to live their best authentic lives.
This is also the second year that Bluebella has partnered with Outright International. This global organization supports the community by tackling discrimination issues and ensuring the safety of LGBTQ+ members worldwide. Bluebella will donate 10% of its Pride Collection sales to Outright International.
Vans
Vans is all about empowering creatives and finding inspiration in the freedom of identity. This pride month, they are sharing their platform with nonbinary poet Tyris Winter in collaboration with the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which was founded by the queer pop music duo. For Vans, creativity is tightly bound with identity, and so it’s only with freedom that art can feel limitless. To achieve this, the brand is reimagining its classic styles with rainbow colors and queer flags to promote self-discovery within the community. They believe that the queer experience is one that should be celebrated as a collective.
Vans officially started the Checkerboard Fund in 2019 to partner with organizations that the brand strongly believes in. Among these are the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which is run by two of the most influential queer musicians within the industry. Their mission is to build confidence and improve the lives of young LGBTQ+ girls. Additionally, Vans is donating $200,000 to Tokyo Rainbow Pride and Where Love Is Illegal as well.
