The Moon Jacks Are “Cruisin’” Into Summer
After the holidays end, the remaining winter season can feel rather bleak. The Moon Jacks’s latest single, “Cruisin’,” offers a form of respite from the cold weather with its upbeat, summery vibes. Fans of bands such as Surf Curse (“Freaks”) and The Growlers (“Dream World”)will enjoy this fun track that’s perfect for relaxing on the beach or listening to while on a road trip along the coast (or at least imagine you are on a road trip driving up and down the coast).
Listen to “Cruisin’” below:
The band describes “Cruisin’” as
“…A fun summer song about drinking beer and going to the beach with your buddies and some pretty girls. Good vibes all around.”
It’s a song about the simple pleasures of summer, which is fully transparent in the lyrics. The song opens the best possible setting for a lazy summer day, “The sun is out/ It’s the weekend/ I got my best friends here/ Driving south/ Where the tide is/ And the water’s clear.”
Along with lyrics full of the warmth of the California sun, the instrumental for “Cruisin’” further sets the tone for this summer tune. It perfectly captures the core of surf rock with sunny guitar riffs and a percussion-heavy chorus that maintains a great beat. The song is punctuated by buzzing- kazoo sounds and even a little ukelele later on.
Based along California’s Central Coast in San Luis Obispo, The Moon Jacks got their start in 2019 with the release of their debut single, “Cigarrettes.” The band combines garage rock with the bright sunny sounds of surf rock to create tracks encompassing the happy feeling of hot summer days with friends and love.
