The Important Role of Visual Artists in EDM

Within the electronic music scene, there are many sub-genres and underground experiences to suit your flavor preferences, but the visuals have always played a very significant role in these types of events. The music you go to see is one thing, and the venues are another aspect, but the lights and visuals on display can bring everything to life in a magically different way. That’s what we wanted to talk about and highlight here is the role of visual artists in the electronic music scene, because they all are really out here treating us to some eye candy. Visuals artists Cannvas from St. Louis and Ivy Visuals from Chicago shared some of their insights and experiences with us to showcase what goes on behind the scenes and all the endless possibilities of moving art.

Cass McLaughlin: How did you get into visual art in this form?

Ivy Visuals: When I went to my first festival in California called the Untz Festival, I had already dabbled a little bit in fractal animations. When I saw Fractaled Visions, one of Tipper’s VJ’s, I thought to myself I wanted to get my art on these LED screens and be a part of these festivals…
