The Farside Deals With an Existential Crisis Full Of “Mostly Noise” In an Upbeat Way

Some days, you wake up and feel overwhelmed by a sense of existential dread and crisis, and it can be difficult to shake. But alt-pop duo The Farside has an upbeat tune that reminds you that sometimes you just have to do what you can to smile through it for a normal day. “Mostly Noise” features a catchy chorus and energetic tempo to spread the positive energy into your day.

The Farside is based out of Morgantown, West Virginia – the obvious place where most famous bands hone their craft. After playing with a revolving cast in an alternative band through high school and college, Adam Fox and Aaron Griffin decided to officially sell out and make pop music instead. After leaving their emo phase (well, no one ever really leaves it), The Farside was born at the turn of 2020. Drawing inspiration from synth wave and modern pop, the two decided that their new project would be a rebranding of sorts, putting a retro spin on their rock roots. Look for new releases in the near future and buy their music so they can move someplace warmer.

Using melodies as whimsical as their approach to their artist bio and arrangements as wholesome as the subject matter would suggest, The Farside creates an energetic atmosphere that simply oozes with positivity, making it hard to not crack a smile even within the first few seconds. Drawing on their synth wave sensibilities, they create a sense of nostalgia that might come from watching old cartoons or playing old video games. They also tie in modern-day pop to create a jump-out-of-bed anthem. As the lyrics try to sort out the noise, which we tend to fill our heads with and get lost within, an infectious optimism spreads within the kick drum and guitar instrumentals, culminating in a roaring exiting chorus before dying down into a final thought on how this melody wards off the impending sense of doom. “Mostly Noise” serves as a useful reminder for us all that, while it’s easy to get lost within our own thoughts, there are fun things we can do to combat those feelings of dread.
