Growing up and entering adulthood is a difficult transition, with learning how to navigate the stress and worry of taking care of oneself. Along the way, it is easy to lose the excitement and wonder of life many people experience as a child, replaced with a more cynical point of view. Olive Klug’s latest single, “Casting Spells,” perfectly captures that child-like viewpoint of life.

This folk song has a more stripped-back instrumental, focusing on Klug’s expressive vocals and the story told within the lyrics. “Casting Spells” will make the listener want to lie down in the grass on a summer’s day and close their eyes as they soak in the sun’s warmth and the song’s meaning.

Olive describes “Casting Spells” as

“[a track with] sparse acoustic instrumentation and delicate, narrative vocals invit[ing] listeners to bring their inner child along as a passenger in their life’s journey. Prompting both nostalgia and excitement for the present moment, I hope to demonstrate that coming into one’s own autonomy is inherently magical. The song… explores themes of pursuing joy in the face of a bleak world and experiencing the final page of your coming-of-age journey that happens in early

adulthood when you arrive in the driver’s seat of your own life.”
