After 10 years, what started as a small fest on Governor’s Island in NYC has blossomed in to an annual multi-genre festival that fits the multi-cultural face of one of the greatest cities in the world. With 2 venue changes ( Randall’s Island will be back soon maybe) to find itself at Citi Field with big hitters like Billie Eilish, the fabled A$AP Rocky, and far-reaching Post Malone, for this 3 day festival starting Friday.

With 4 main stages and historically torturous scheduling, it always brings touch choices to make because of the incredible selection of artists. Like Smino, who’s on a feature run tear the likes rarely seen, Rufus Du Sol, announcing a new album the day before the fest, and a once in a lifetime performance of Freddie Gibbs and the elusive The Alchemist playing one of the top rap albums of the past year.

With big names, Governors Ball also gives back to the city, makings space for homegrown talent, and artists to discover, earlier in the day like, Princess Nokia, Bartees Strange and RMR. With metropolitan food from around the world at your fingertips, eating well, and listening to good music makes this festival a mainstay of NYC, and a must for anyone in the festival scene.

Who are you looking forward to? A big name like Megan Thee Stallion? Someone a bit less known like MUNA, or a growing name like Caroline Polachek? Regardless of who you plan to go to, the Governors Ball catchphrase runs true. “You’re doing great!”.

We will keep you covered on the scene of the resurgence of the NYC festival circuit and a closer look at some of the best shows happening in the coming days as we bring you articles from the ground floor, interviews and pictures to match! Heres the sounds youll be hearing through the weekend.

I love the euphoric high of finding a new artist, song, or album that does something different for the world of music. Out of Brooklyn, NY, I listen to a wide range of music, from Rock and Pop, with a special interest in Electronic, Hip-Hop and Rap. I “go down the rabbit hole” and explore new music on Spotify and Soundcloud finding those tracks, artists and albums that are worth talking about. I have a weekly updated themed mixtape meant to be played through, co-host a podcast, and have a weekly album review on Insta : flow.page/maxedocr
