TAYDEM SHOESMITH WANTS TO KNOW “ARE YOU CLAPPING?”

Diving into the pop music market, 20 year old Taydem Showsmith debuted her new single “Are You Clapping?’ on New Years Eve. Taydem deemed this song to be very personal and hopes that listeners can connect to this electro-pop dance anthem. “Are You Clapping?” comes from a place of anger where Taydem was really frustrated with society and the industry. The feeling of having to put on a facade eventually became exhausting for her. If you want a guys attention these are the things you need to do flirt but don’t come off too strong, be mysterious but don’t come off bitchy were basically what Taydem was being told in the industry.

“We think we have to act like the perfect person when we talk to people or go on dates. We’re kind of setting ourselves up for failure because we’re acting like someone we think they want to be with. I mean, it makes sense because in the past, relationships weren’t about love or connections. They were basically just business deals. I guess I just got to the point of wondering why I was doing this. Why were people telling me to talk more, smile more, flirt better, don’t be boring, etc, so often, when it came to relationships. Because not only was it exhausting to keep that facade up, I was also disappointed in myself for basically faking who I was, just to catch some guy’s attention.”

Taydem explains it perfectly in the quote above and even without being in the industry, many can relate to this feeling. The show is over, no more pretending just being your authentic self. A great message to put out there especially when our society is dominated by social media. Her vocals are beautiful, the passion and strength can be heard with each note.
