The past few years led many people to make huge changes in their lives and learn how to grapple with the consequences of these decisions. The emotions behind these changes are explored in Hayden Calnin’s latest indie folk single, “Gravity Find Us & Bring Us In.” The acoustic guitar, combined with the deep richness of his vocals, brings a sorrowful and reflective atmosphere to the song.
Calnin explains the meaning behind “Gravity Find Us & Bring Us In,”
“…is about trying to find your place in the world after it has taken a big shift. It’s about re-thinking your outlook on life.”

Lyrically, the song describes the whirlwind of emotions many people experience when they question their perspective on life. The first lines of the song, “Finding my place on Earth is a little like how it turns/ For all it might be worth/ We let it happen, and I’m feeling the hurt,” describes how this is an inevitable process that can lead to a lot of pain. For “Gravity Find Us & Bring Us In,” specifically, the last stanza of the song reveals what caused this shift in perception, as Calnin sings, “Well, there won’t be another stage/ Yeah we gave it everything/ I’m gonna miss your face/ Time to go our separate ways/ Yeah, time to accept you didn’t want to stay.” Although many situations can cause these perception shifts, the ending of a relationship is a common situation in which this occurs.
Hayden Calnin has been releasing music for over a decade, with his latest album, What It Means To Be Human, released in 2021. Last year, Calnin dropped a handful of singles and his EP Something/Anything. “Gravity Find Us & Bring Us In,” is his first single of 2023.
