It’s not too often where you stumble upon a video in which the visuals match the voice and the mood of the artist so well. And nothing says this more than the acoustic video behind the project of Synechdoche Montauk in their 2023 track, “Forest Of Hands.”

The London-based, Moscow-born musician has been pushing the boundaries of music for ten years since the release of debut album, Внеклассное чтение (which translates to Extracurricular Reading). Their genre, self-dubbed as “Pierrot-core,” showcases impactful melodies and haunting vocals.

Each track’s message also alludes to Russian life and signs of modernity. All of these elements, combined with a multi-faceted sound creates a panoramic image and emotional concentration behind each track that defies language barriers. As an example, we can effortlessly feel each of these qualities throughout Montauk’s works.

The visuals in “Forest of Hands” transfix the audience from the start. A high-contrast black and white landscape cascades through brick arches. When the acoustic guitar begins to strum, we see the artist dead center in a relaxed dark suit. The vocals then take center stage, and the allure of the visuals harmonize with the performance as a whole.

Synecdoche Montauk’s “Forest of Hands” is a hauntingly reflective acoustic video that delves into the depths of school bullying. It juxtaposes the concept against the nonsensical conflicts in today’s world. Filmed by director Nick Denisov at the historically significant Ouse Valley Viaduct, the song explores themes of connection and metaphorical markers. The title playfully alludes to classroom perplexity.

Montauk crafts a lyrical sequence that skillfully captures the universal nature of bullying as both an individual problem and a behavioral model for society at large. With its poignant lyrics and beautiful acoustic melodies, “Forest of Hands” leaves listeners with a sense of introspection about their own experiences with bullying and encourages us to question our societal norms when it comes to conflict resolution.

Stay tuned for more updates on Synechdoche Montauk!
