Skamp Vera Drops Latest Single “Scratches”

Anyone who loves the raw sound of garage rock combined with surf rock undertones of catchy melodies and hooks will love Skamp Vera’s latest single, “Scratches.”

“Scratches” opens with only the electric guitar and vocals before there seems to be a pause after the first 25 seconds. This pause helps transition into a new chord progression that creates anticipation, especially with how the vocals draw the listener into the pre-chorus. All of this builds to the satisfying explosion of the chorus and helps drive the track’s energy.

Vocally, “Scratches” is full of rawness in the best way possible, putting forth the frustration played out in the track and bringing an energy that will make the listener rock out. The passionate vocals further draw on the story behind the track.

According to Skamp Vera, “Scratches” is about,

“… being strung along in a relationship that has no real end goal and how it leaves you with conflicting emotions and confused thoughts on what the relationship means to you and the other person.”

The lyrics play out the story, with the first verse setting up the situation “I don’t wanna know/About all your life/Your new flings/ with other guys/ I love the satisfaction/ Of me being yours/ But maybe I’m a distraction/In your collapsing world.” The pause at the beginning of the track also indicates a change in the perspective, building on the confusing nature of the relationship, “Now she’s lying next to me/Between the covers and the sheets/ And the scratches on my back/ should tell me where we’re at.” Throughout the rest of the song, the lyrics go back and forth on the confusing nature of the relationship.

For anyone looking for a song that puts into words the confusion of more casual relationships while still being fun to rock out to, add “Scratches” to your playlist now.
