Country rock star and nine-time GRAMMY Awards winner Sheryl Crow recently dropped the title track single for her newest studio album, “Evolution,” coming out March 29 via The Valory Music Group.

The single, also called “Evolution,” is about artificial intelligence, namely Crow’s qualms about the modern technology and the effects that she believes AI will inevitably wreak on our planet and humanity. In a press release for “Evolution,” Crow said, “As a mom, I want to leave a better world for my children, a healthier planet — is A.I. going to be a benevolent partner in these goals or not? It’s unsettling, and this song deals with those anxieties.”

Crow, who was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2023 by actress Laura Dern this past November, has enjoyed a career spanning thirty years so far, with no slowing of momentum near. Since the release of her debut album “Tuesday Night Music Club” in 1993, Crow has amassed more than her fair share of awards and honors.

Among those most impressive include the fact that eight of her 10 studio albums released thus far have reached Top 10 positions on the Billboard 200, as well as the honorary doctoral degree that she was awarded by Southeast Missouri State University in 2001.

The 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee released her latest single in January in collaboration with another 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello. In talks about the production of “Evolution,” Crow has nothing but high praise for the alternative rock guitarist featured on her album.

“To me, Tom’s playing comes from some other planet,” Crow said. “It’s a cool bit of kismet that we were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in the same year, and his solo on ‘Evolution’ just ejects you into space.”

In the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame class of 2023, Crow and Morello are joined by other musical superstars such as Kate Bush, who experienced a sharp uptick in listeners after “Running Up That Hill” was featured in the fourth season of “Stranger Things.” Additionally, George Michael of beloved ’80s pop duo Wham! was posthumously inducted into the class of 2023, despite his death in 2016.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which celebrates household name musicians and bands across all genres in their list of November 2023 inductees, highlights artists who have recently returned to the limelight after some time away. Crow is no exception to this, with her upcoming 2024 album marking the first album she has released since 2019’s “Threads.”

“Evolution, ever changing / Lost in space and time / Maybe there’s a grand solution / Somewhere we will find / Deep in the heart of humankind”
