Shawn Mendes releases heart-wrenching music video for “It’ll be Okay”

On January 13, GRAMMY nominated, multi-platinum singer/songwriter Shawn Mendes debuted the video for his recently released track, “It’ll Be Okay.” The video was directed by Jay Martin, who had previously worked with Shawn on“Stitches,” “Mercy,” and “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.” “It’ll be Okay” was filmed in Shawn’s hometown of Toronto.

While most listeners would most likely recognize Shawn’s music as raw and passionate explorations of romance, the singer has taken a different, more vulnerable approach with the direction of this song. In contrast to his most popular singles, which are idyllic and adrenaline-laced in their approach of experiencing love, “It’ll Be Okay” is instead a quiet, deeply painful self-reconciliation after a messy falling out.

“I start to imagine a world where we don’t collide, and it’s making me sick, but we’ll heal and the sun will rise,” sings Shawn as he walks down a snow-dotted street. These relationship-neutral lyrics will surely resonate with those recovering from a broken heart after a failed correspondence, romantic or otherwise.

Shawn Mendes is a multi-award winning singer/songwriter with over 62 billion global streams and 10 billion video views. He topped Billboard’s “21 Under 21” in 2017 and 2018 and has been featured on Forbes “30 Under 30,” Spotify’s “25 Under 25,” and Time Magazine’s “Time 100 Most Influential”. In 2018, ROI Influencer Media recognized Shawn as the #1 Most Influential Artist and #1 Most Influential Teen across all social media platforms.  In 2019 Shawn launched The Shawn Mendes Foundation, which seeks to inspire Shawn’s audience to learn about causes that they are passionate about and help empower them to use the voice they have to bring change to the world by taking action.
