Halfway through this Aftershock weekend, we’re all already feeling that exhaustion. Two full days of partying at Aftershock is the equivalent of 10 marathons (probably). I’ve personally already walked over 37,000 steps. My legs are jelly. Every night I’m coughing up dust in the shower. What keeps us coming back for more? We absolutely freaking love it! This may be our 7th Aftershock, but we still remember what it was like to come to Discovery Park for the first time to get pushed around and screamed at. So today we decided to find some fellow Aftershock veterans and some fresh faces to the crowd, and ask them about their experiences so far. Here’s what they said.
What brought them to the festival this year? For the veterans of the game, the scene itself is what they live for. A 3-year Aftershock goer told us they love the bar scene for people watching. There’s a great sense of diversity among the fashion and the music. People from all walks of life come here. Their favorite things has always been just meeting people. A 4-year partier said that they work all year just so they can take the week off for Aftershock. They live right across the street from Discovery Park, and got FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) from past years. They’re excited to see Danny Elfman and Tool. The food is really good, everything feels less crowded with this year’s expansions, and the seated area under the tent in the VIP area is a really great addition. In fact, everyone loves the food here and how many options there are. At least one person did tell us that they wished there were more options for dietary restrictions.
I don’t care who’s playing. The people are cool, people watching is cool; and everyone is super nice. The bands are just an extra perk.
First time Aftershockers don’t usually have a sense of the scene here, so what brings them in this weekend? Mainly the music, of course. They all have bands here that they really wanted to see. One first year at the bar told us they were here for Three 6 Mafia, Limp Bizkit, and Wu-Tang Clan. They’re a tagalong to a friend who really likes these bands, and comes for the atmosphere and the vibes. We met another first-timer who flew all the way from Seattle to be here. They told us that the setlist was something they could not refuse. They’re a fan of all different genres and was so excited to be here to catch all the bands they never saw before.
It’s noteworthy that Day 2 this year has been different from past years. With the headliner Limp Bizkit, and featuring $uicideBoy$, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Three 6 Mafia, Cypress Hill, and Insane Clown Posse, we have seen a whole new crop of people that wouldn’t typically hit Aftershock in years past. We love the insane diversity of people here, and people-watching and meeting new friends continues to be one of our favorite things about the festival. Next is Saturday, which promises to be just as killer as the first 2 days. We hope to see you there.
