Sam Smith and Kim Petras Reach Ground-Breaking Success with “Unholy” Collab, Attaining Certified Platinum Status
Sam Smith’s “Unholy” featuring Kim Petras went certified platinum by RIAA and reached no. 1 on Mediabase’s top 40 airplay chart, which is incredible considering there are only 14 singles that have attained RIAA Platinum status. The track made history as the first pop collab of 2022 to reach certified platinum status.
“Unholy” is also up for a Grammy nomination in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. Sam posted his gratitude for the Grammy nomination on Instagram, congratulating his “Unholy” partner Kim.
“To be Grammy nominated for THIS song, with THIS artist… hits different 🖤 congratulations my angel love @kimpetras 🖤 #unholy.”
Kim and Sam’s song also spent four weeks at No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart and became certified silver in the UK. “Unholy” sat at No. 1 on the Global Spotify chart for 29 consecutive days, as well as Apple and Shazam.
Many people were captivated by “Unholy” because of the jaw-dropping lyrics that spill a married man’s secrets and the incredible instrumentals. But Sam and Kim outdid themselves when they decided to make a music video that gives a thousand nods to those who identify with the LGBTQIA+ community.
“When we were shooting Unholy there was the warmest and kindest energy in the room,” Sam wrote in an Instagram post about the music video. “Everyone felt really free. I think all the queer people in that room felt incredibly empowered. You can feel that in this video, which is beautiful.”
Singer Gloria Estefan commented on the post, informing the “Stay With Me” singer that he spreads love.
“You spread love, Sam! Also…a fan sent me a clip of the lovely comments you shared about me on a radio show…Thank you so much, I love you too, mucho! Keep sharing your beautiful voice with our world….”
The wicked track is the top song on Sam’s forthcoming album, GLORIA. Listen to it on all music streaming platforms and watch the music video.
