Have you ever felt you gave way more than you received?
Well, rising pop star Salem Ilese has been there too. In her song “Team Sport,” released last month, Ilese addresses just that.
Most known for her viral song “Mad at Disney,” Ilese has only become more relatable in her work. In “Team Sport,” she calls out one-sided relationships. She shared more about the song:
“Team Sport is about being in a one-sided relationship. It’s one of those rare songs that started out with the first verse. I usually write the chorus first, but this song began with the idea ‘there’s no ‘i’ in love.’ Relationships really are a team sport, whether it be romantic or otherwise. The production of this song is one of my favorites on the album. It feels very raw and emotional, and leans into my actual music taste, which is primarily alt rock. The instrumentation is mostly live, which I also appreciate.”

The song is reminiscent of the ‘00s pop-punk era. Ilese is an expert at transporting the listener back to the times of Avril Lavigne.
With the single, Ilese also released a visualizer with a camcorder-style quality that only furthers her ‘00s energy. Watch it here:
Ilese is known for her songwriting. Not only does she have her own hits under her belt, but she also has written for Demi Lovato, Bella Poarch and TXT.
On Friday, Ilese answered fans’ prayers and finally announced her debut album.
“High Concept” will be out Sept. 15. Along with “Team Sport,” the tracklist is set to include “PainHub” and her most recently released song, “Strongly Worded Letter.”
While waiting for “High Concept,” keep up with Ilese on Instagram, Twitter and TikTok.
