Sage Charmaine’s Single “Anime Tears” Is Production Perfection

Rising hyperpop artist Sage Charmaine released her latest single “Anime Tears” on April 8th, marking her first release of 2022.

While the Texas-based singer draws a significant amount of inspiration from Gen Z trends and influences, her roots lie in the mid-2000’s emo scene she grew up with. Charmaine was raised in a traditionally Southern, tight-knit community where religion played a major role in their everyday lives. This, however, didn’t prevent Charmaine from always remaining unapologetically true to herself. At nine years old, Sage Charmaine was the best of both worlds. After singing the National Anthem in rhinestone cowboy boots at a rodeo, she would race home to listen to her favorite band My Chemical Romance. Even as a child, Charmaine held such unequivocal star power that her family moved to California to pursue her dreams of becoming a recording artist.

Following the big move, Charmaine began homeschooling online -helping to develop her affinity for technology and internet culture that we see so heavily influencing her art. Toying with various genres, Sage Charmaine is a leading role in the resurgence of emo music and culture in 2022. While still staying true to her core inspirations, Charmaine also sees mainstream artists such as Rico Nasty, the late Juice Wrld, and Post Malone as creative influences.

“Anime Tears” is indicative of Charmaine’s creative talents -playing into the eclectic, animated electro-pop genre that made artists like Kim Petras and 100 Gecs so popular. The track is fun and vibrant -but the real fireworks start at about 1:40. The production on “Anime Tears” is unmatched, making it the perfect song to blast in your headphones for a main character moment.

You can keep up with Sage Charmaine and her upcoming projects on streaming platforms such as Spotify and SoundCloud.
