Halloween might look a little bit different this year, but leave it up to RL Grime to make sure it still sounds the same. The trap king is back with a brand new “Halloween IX” mix, meaning this is his 9th consecutive year of delighting EDM fans with an hour of trap, bass, and just straight filth.
Leading up to the release of this latest installation, RL Grime used Twitch to stream all of his previous mixes, making Halloween the month-long celebration it deserves to be. And of course, to round it all out, he live-streamed “Halloween IX”, complete with visual work completed by a crew of animators that complemented the spine-chilling tunes.
The mix starts off with an introduction by T-Pain, and I don’t know about you, but when I hear that classic T-Pain auto-tune, I know what’s coming next is going to be a banger. Legendary Goosebumps author, RL Stine, also lends his voice to the introduction, as is customary in this series.
Ominous and dark beats are scattered amongst flashy, apocalyptic, and otherworldly visuals. Future bass elements can be heard over distorted and glitched animations. There are no breaks once you start this journey. The tracklist contains a lot of ID’s, but also tracks from various rappers and members of RL’s trap label, Sable Valley.
