It’s proving to be quite a year for Poppy. Just releasing third major project in five weeks, her latest single, “Her,” arrived paired with an “instantly iconic” music video by stop motion animator/director, Chris Ullens (Rex Orange County, Lee Ann Womack). This track shows off another step in the evolution of style that is this post-genre polymath; featuring a stream-lined songwriting approach that puts her indelible earworm melodies at the foreground of a dense mosaic of power pop guitars.

This year, Poppy kicked off with a stunning GRAMMY performance in March, her global livestream event The Last Disagreement in April, last month’s release of her cover of Jack Off Jill’s “Fear of Dying,” and multiple appearances on WWE NXT, the most recent of which culminated with her announcing the surprise drop of a new five song EP, EAT – NXT SOUNDTRACK, released in a special partnership between the WWE and Sumerian Records. On top of it all she recently struck up a partnership with Viktor and Rolf as the face of their fragrance Flowerbomb with L’Oreal, and recently announced a collaborative line of shoes with Koi Footwear

“Her” was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (M83, Air, St. Vincent), who had Poppy and her band record live to tape, lending the song a warm, organic feel that lends a decidedly personal touch to this new era.

Watch the video for “Her” below:

The track’s poignant themes touch on gender stereotypes in women through her signature bubblegum sweet lead vocals as it harmonizes with heavy unclean vocals in the background, all of which blend beautifully into the scene of electric guitar and metal drums. The music video released with the track visualizes in stop motion, a factory scene creating androids on an assembly line, where each compete in a musical performance to make the cut in the eyes of a looming figure on a throne. In the end, none of them did; and the program has to reboot after a few of the androids try to break through the system and are in the end defeated.

Listen to Poppy’s newest music below, and stay tuned for more updates!
