On December 6th, 2021, American guitarist Matt Crafton put out a “Flamenco/Classical rendition” of his original song, “Roller Coaster.” The passion on this performance is palpable, and the production pads this passion with some excellent mixing. There aren’t many classical guitar pieces that I’m aware of just because of a lack of knowledge within the genre, but the one that comes to mind is a big one for me. Are you ready?

“Bone Collector.” Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge. The difference here is that Matt Crafton is one man layering different guitar lines over each other and making them converse. Where Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge had a musical conversation with each other, Matt Crafton has a musical conversation with himself. It’s just as gorgeous and just as powerful.

The production on this piece is incredible as well. Everything is panned where it needs to be to make it sound like multiple guitarists are playing at the same time, and Matt Crafton uses his knowledge of progression and different musical ideas to keep every moment of this track fresh. Just when you think you’ve heard everything the track has to offer, here comes a different element that fits in perfectly. Excellent work on this track.
