LowDown Brass Band is a uniquely strong representation of Chicago Music culture. This talented all-horn band leans heavily on dancehall and street beat rhythm, with the energy of conscious hip hop, jazz, reggae, and soul. While touring and performances are on pause, the band has been keeping busy with LowDown Mini Reels.

These reels are short songs and visual ideas that range from 1-2 minutes in length. Whether an instrumental or full vocal performance, LowDown Mini Reels are meant to be thought-provoking and straight to the point. The band will be releasing a reel every other week starting in February. Every new song is a chance to show the band’s growth, express their views of the world, and engage with the public. This series will carry LowDown Brass through the final months of the pandemic as they drop their next full-length record, LowDown Nights, which is scheduled for a Fall 2021 release.

“Search the Hills” is the second release from this series. Accompanied by a chilly snow-filled visual, laden with lots of fake cash and jewels and a GameStop stock bubble reference, this neo-soul track bumps with all the best vibes. The thrumming undertone creates a vibrant atmosphere that becomes more so with the addition of the horns. The cash props come into play when the lyrics reference the power of money in this day and age. The song is a little over 1 minute and 30 seconds but delivers a punchy message over an energized beat.
