Eli Derby has a classic sensuality, the kind that only R&B can convey, much like what performers such as Usher bring to the stage. Combined with the lyrical versatility of other genre standouts like Ne-Yo, it makes him an artist worthy of earning a place on the charts of a genre that, despite everything, refuses to give up its space to more viral sounds.
Born in Maryland, the artist was exposed to the arts from a very young age, thanks to a family of artists and the everyday presence of spaces where he could create and express himself, such as the church he attended with his family. It was there that he began playing the drums at an early age, eventually adding piano, bass, and guitar to his repertoire.
Derby gradually built a relationship with music that did not depend solely on singing. His instruments became another way to understand songs, while his first public steps came through covers and original compositions he began sharing online.
In 2021, “Gaslight” began drawing attention to his artistry, and shortly afterward came “Left on Read,” an EP that offered a deeper look into the singer’s sensibility. It featured “Lately,” a collaboration with 6LACK that helped expand his reach.
His evolution also led him to “Slow Burn,” a project released in 2025, once again with the unmistakable mark of his songwriting, rooted in human relationships.
Today, he returns to digital platforms with “LOVESHY,” an EP that revolves around desire, attraction, vulnerability, and the contradictions that emerge when someone begins to occupy an important place in our lives.
“Fumble” is the song that leaves one of the project’s deepest impressions. Here, Derby leaves behind any idealization of romance to speak from the uncomfortable position of someone who knows they lost something important because of their own decisions.
The track is accompanied by a music video steeped in the aesthetic of 2000s R&B, with Amaya Espinal, known for her appearance on Love Island, joining the story as it unfolds among gleaming cars and nighttime streets.
With nearly 40 million global streams and now backed by Art@War/Warner Records and the strength of “LOVESHY,” Eli Derby’s journey is finding a larger framework from which to continue growing, always using love and its many forms as a way to connect, grow, and create.
