Lizzo Made Us Feel Special in Sacramento

On Sunday, May 28, four-time Grammy award-winning artist Lizzo brought “The Special 2our” to Sacramento, California’s Golden 1 Center.

The tour, which is nearing the end of its third leg, highlights the singer’s fourth studio album, Special.

First to take the stage was Lizzo’s tour DJ, DJ Sophia Eris, who got the party started with a set of high-energy songs and remixes. 

“Good vibes only tonight, baby,” she said as concert goers in colorful, sparkly outfits danced while making their way to their seats with food and drinks in hand. 

DJ Von, Latto’s official DJ, kept the good vibes going with a quick set to warm up for the tour’s opening act.

Commanding the arena’s attention from the moment she took the stage, Latto delivered a fierce performance full of bold rap lyrics and sexy dance moves. 

“It’s the night of bad b*tches,” she said. 

Latto performed songs including “Soufside,” “He Say She Say,” “Another Nasty Song,” “P*SSY” and crowd favorite “Big Energy.”   

The rapper used her “P*SSY” stage to make a powerful statement about bodily autonomy. During the song, her dancers paraded around the stage holding pink signs with rallying cries that read “P*ssy,” “Protect Women’s Rights” and “My Body My Choice.” Soon after that performance, she started a chant that resulted in thousands of audience members yelling “My body, my choice.”

As Lizzo performed her set, she shared similarly empowering messages and also advocated for trans rights, at one point draping a Progress Pride Flag around herself.  

“This is a safe space, baby,” she told the audience. 

Throughout her performance, Lizzo dazzled in glittery outfits that sparkled under the stage lights. Her and her all-Black female band and dancers put on an exciting, energetic show that had everyone dancing and singing along. She even busted out Sasha Flute a few times and impressed the crowd with seemingly effortless high notes and runs.

Lizzo performed songs including hits like ”Good as Hell,” “Juice,” “About Damn Time,” Truth Hurts” and “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready).”  

Between songs, Lizzo never missed an opportunity to engage and interact with her fans. She complimented audience members on their outfits, signs and dance skills. She also took the time to take selfies and record videos with several fans. Other memorable interactions included her singing “Happy Birthday” to a young fan, signing a thesis that a student wrote about her and signing a woman’s breast.

The night was filled with many forms of love and Lizzo made it a point to make every single person in the arena feel special.    

“I love you, you are beautiful and you can do anything,” she told the crowd.
