Lily Meola Releases Inspiring Single “(Don’t Quit Your) Daydream”

After taking almost a year-long break from releasing music, singer-songwriter Lily Meola is back with her new single, “(Don’t Quit Your) Daydream.” The song is a reimagination of her 2021 release, “Daydream.”

Upon listening to both songs, it’s clear that Meola’s new single preserves the lyrics and overall sound of “Daydream.” What sets it apart from its former self, though, is the elevated instrumental production, vocal processing and arrangement of backing vocals.

Instrumentally, “(Don’t Quit Your) Daydream” features a bright piano melody accompanied by percussion that strengthens the soundscape of the song after the first chorus. The cinematic piano lifts Meola’s lyrics and minimal vocal processing makes her voice sound more raw and powerful than before. As Meola’s strong, soulful voice soars over the track, a complementary set of backing vocals adds a layer of warmth that brightens the atmosphere of the song. Unlike in “Daydream,” Meola’s moving vocals pour into “(Don’t Quit Your) Daydream” from the very start, drawing you in immediately and taking you on an uphill climb that leads to a climactic last chorus that will give you chills.

Using the same lyrics as “Daydream,” Meola’s new single is a necessary reminder that we should never stop pursuing our dreams. No matter how scared or nervous we feel, how many times we fail, or how much we doubt ourselves, going after what we want will always be worth it in the end because we’ll become more resilient and find more fulfillment.

About the song, Meola shares:

The song means everything to me. The message is more important than me as a person. In the past year, I’ve seen the type of effect and power it has on people to rethink things. I needed to lean into that. My goal is to write about everything I go through, whether it’s heartbreak, grief, sadness, and excitement. With “Daydream,” the response over-exceeded my hopes and dreams on any level. Every day is a new day where we have our struggles and achievements. Being able to go back to the song and listen, it’s an important reminder not to give up.
