Though the festival formally opened its gates at around 11:45 am, it wasn’t until about 1–2 pm that the pace began to pick up, and crowd numbers gradually elevated. Feeling contained, the general vibe at this moment was cheery and full of anticipation for the acts scheduled to perform. As the quintessential sunny day, attendees dressed accordingly for the modestly hot afternoon, with women often seen in colorful outfits and men dressed in casual attire. For the most part (at least at this stage of the event), the general festival-goers seemed college-aged, with the older crowd presumably appearing later after finishing work. By 4 pm, with everyone settling in, acts such as JPEGMafia and Channel Tres swept the stage and invited a little chaos to infiltrate the hive mind of the crowd.

As 4 pm soon turned to around 5 pm, the real mania of the day truly began. With Migos pulling out, Lil Wayne was set to step in and perform to an excited audience. Unfortunately, for some unforeseen reason, Tha Carter III artist also became a no-show, leaving whoever would replace him up in the air. Alas, official confirmation for a replacement appeared at 5 pm, with A$AP Ferg scheduled to go on stage. Full of anticipation, the artist’s entry into the festival marked the first mosh-worthy affair of the evening. Packed like sardines, festival goers embraced the anarchy of the situation with each countdown from Ferg queuing the audience to go wild. While civility appears to dwindle within these moments, people were willing to widen the pits to help anyone who fell down. This certain unspoken pact amongst the crowd raised the camaraderie within the crowd and set the tone for the true spirit of Governors Ball: Community. This sense of family coincided with insanity, brought the best out of everyone that night moving forward. Acts such as Jack Harlow and Kid Cudi welcomed the same values that were instilled before, only grander in scale. Overall, the general atmosphere of the event welcomed hospitality, with people opening their arms to anyone willing to have a good time.
