Leila Dandan Releases “screen door”

On December 11th, “American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer” Leila Dandan released her latest single, “screen door.” Filled with gorgeous vocal harmonies, poignant lyrics, and the sound of the Fender Rhodes (!!!), “screen door” is the mix of Phoebe Bridgers and Brandi Carlile that the world needs. There is nothing lacking in this track, and that’s amazing.

As mentioned previously, there are harmonies for pretty much every vocal line. Some might say this is a little over-the-top, but it suits the style of the song quite well. In addition, the strings that come in add a cinematic layer to the production that makes the song seem even more suited to sync placement than it already was. The production on this is incredible, and it just sounds wonderful.

On the lyrics, Leila Dandan has said “‘screen door’ was written from a place of reflection on past relationships. I wrote it after I had been looking through old texts with who used to be a very close friend of mine. It was hard for me to believe that, without reason, our friendship faded to a place where it felt strange to reach out anymore. I was naturally lead [sic] into trying to figure out the reason why it was so, even though it’s very likely there was never a reason at all.” As someone who has gone through this, as I’m sure many of you have, it feels like Dandan is reaching into my brain and putting my own thoughts into song. That’s what music is supposed to do, isn’t it?

Check out the song below, and be sure to let us know what you think!

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
