Lalanne Debuts Her Alt-Pop Single, “Same Old Story”
One of the reasons music connects with so many people is because of the stories told through these songs, stories listeners relate to, stories that reflect the human experience. Artists such as Meg Chandler incorporate intimate moments from their lives to create resonating music, and Lalanne’s newest single, “Same Old Story,” is sure to resonate with the listener as well.
“Same Old Story” lies between alternative pop and indie-pop, combining Lalanne’s love of funky bass, orchestral strings, piano, and haunting harmonies. The song describes Lalanne’s life in Los Angeles when she moved to the city over a decade ago. Lalanne’s tale is further elevated with her gorgeous vocals on top of the harmonies, especially during the chorus while singing, ” It’s the same old feeling/ I wear it on my sleeve/ It’s the same old story/ I tell it well/ This web I weave.”

Lalanne (pronounced luh-lawn) discusses her latest single,
“Same Old Story is my first single, and the first song I ever wrote. It is also going to be the first track in a larger body of work- an album titled Portrait which paints a picture of my life since moving to Los Angeles 10 years ago. This song is my nod to the upheaval I felt at the time, wanting to tell people my story and process it but also being a mess and not knowing how.”
Lalanne’s goal with her music is to create something that expresses her life story but can get people to dance. Her influences include artists like Adele, Florence + The Machine, Artie Shaw, Maggie Rogers, Lorde, and jazz from the 1920s-1940s era.
“Same Old Story” is the first track on Lalanne’s soon-to-be-released album, Portrait, and the musician explains how,
“The tracks are in chronological order and weave the story of my life- my heartbreak of my parent’s passing when I was young, the emotional chaos that ensued, and my journey to loving myself. All these feelings, but I wanted to give it a funky, fun, and mysterious vibe- turning this trauma into something positive!”
Lalanne is a singer-songwriter born and raised in San Francisco before moving to Los Angeles which has been her home for the past decade. Music is how she turns her trauma and life experiences into art, hoping that others dealing with similar situations can find comfort in her music.
